How to use this tool

  1. 1.Drop or select a flat PDF - a scan, or a form whose boxes are only lines.
  2. 2.Choose Text, Checkbox or Radio, then drag on the page to draw each box. Name each field and add hint text for screen readers.
  3. 3.Create & Download, then open the copy and try every box before sending it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The file is opened, edited and saved in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere or stored, so keep the copy you download.

Will the fields work in Acrobat, Preview and my browser?

They are standard PDF form fields, so readers that fill forms treat them like any other. Open the downloaded copy and try each box before you send it. You can also open it in the Fill PDF Form tool here.

Can it calculate totals or check dates?

No. These fields hold what is typed and nothing more: there is no form scripting, so no calculation, formatting or validation. Text is limited to Latin characters.

What happens to a form that already has fields?

They are left as they are, shown as dashed outlines, and your new fields are added alongside. A new field cannot reuse an existing field's name. An Adobe XFA-only form cannot be opened here; if a form carries an XFA packet as well as ordinary fields, the packet is removed so Adobe Reader shows the fields you see.

Do the fields survive merging, reordering or splitting?

The boxes stay on the pages, but they stop being fillable. Merge, Organize and Split keep each field's look but not the field. Make the document final first, then create the fields last.

What does a digital signature do to this?

Saving any change to a digitally signed PDF invalidates the signature. The tool warns you when a file carries one.
