Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between N-up, booklet and poster?

N-up puts 2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 pages on each sheet, shrunk to fit — handy for handouts and proofs. Booklet reorders the pages so that, printed double-sided and folded, they read in order as a booklet (the page count is rounded up to a multiple of 4 with blank pages). Poster does the opposite of N-up: it enlarges one page across a grid of sheets you print and tape together.

How do I print a booklet?

Print the result double-sided, flipping on the short edge, at 100% (“actual size”), then fold the stack in half. Every output page is one printed side, so a 12-page booklet makes 6 pages to print on 3 sheets of paper. Choose right-to-left binding for a book that is read from the right.

Do links, comments and form fields survive?

No. Each source page is placed on the new sheet as a copy of its printed content — text and graphics — but not its links, comments or form fields, and nothing of them is kept in the file. If a form is filled in or a page has comments you want to see, use Flatten first (it draws them into the page), then lay it out.

Does a poster hide the rest of the page on each sheet?

It hides it, but does not delete it. Every sheet of a poster contains the whole enlarged page and shows only its own part; the sheet’s edge cuts off the rest. Do not rely on it to remove anything — use Redact for that.

What happens to page size, rotation and cropping?

Each page is placed as it is displayed: a page that is stored sideways and shown turned comes out upright, and a cropped page uses its visible area. N-up never enlarges a small page; it only shrinks pages that do not fit their cell.

Is the text still selectable? Is the file larger?

Text stays text (it is not turned into a picture) and keeps its quality at any zoom. The file is usually about the size of the original; a poster stores each page once, however many sheets it fills. The new file is built fresh, so the original’s document properties (title, author), bookmarks and tags are not carried over.
