Is my form, or what I type into it, uploaded?

No. The form is opened, filled and saved in your browser; neither the file nor your answers are sent anywhere or stored. Close or reload the page and they are gone, so keep the filled copy you download.

Should I flatten the form?

Flattening draws your answers onto the page and removes the fields, so the answers can no longer be edited — but software can no longer read them as form data either. Flatten when you are sending a finished form to a person. Do not flatten when a portal or office system imports the fields, or when someone else still has to fill in their part. If unsure, download both.

Why don’t totals or dates fill in by themselves?

Some forms contain scripts that add up totals or reformat dates as you type. This tool does not run a form’s scripts, so type every answer exactly as it should appear, totals included.

Why won’t my form open, or let me type?

Four things stop it. A flat form (scanned, or with boxes that are only lines) has no fields to fill — the Sign tool can place short text on it instead. Adobe XFA forms can only be filled in Adobe Reader. Encrypted forms cannot be opened, including ones that allow filling but restrict other changes. And text is limited to Latin characters for now.

What happens to a digital signature already on the form?

Saving any change to a digitally signed PDF invalidates the signature — that is what it is designed to detect. The tool warns you when a form carries one. Fill the form first and have it signed afterwards.
